All about Sam!

This post is all about my older son, Samuel. He is having a GREAT summer! The first picture is of Sam at summer camp on family night. Usually he cannot go "blobbing" at day camp since he is not old enough, but on family night all restrictions are lifted. The first time he climbed the ladder and looked down a the "blob" he climbed right back down! Then he saw Annie do it fearlessly and decided he could to- and he did...four more times!
Thankfully the novelty of having a new baby in the house has not worn off yet. The kids still argue over who gets to hold and carry him. Sam is my clumsy child (my genetics!) so I prefer to have him hold Timothy while he is seated. Look at that tan! (and how white my baby is!)
Here is my Sammy at Karate class. He is one stripe away from getting his orange belt and he CANNOT WAIT! He works hard and stays focused at karate. I hope he gets that last stripe before school starts, it has good self esteem attached to it! Speaking of school, Sam is so excited to start first grade. He is literally counting the days to get onto that bus and go! I hope he is always this enthusiastic about his education!

Well, we are still enjoying summer and have gotten ourselves into a nice little routine! The older kids continue to go to camp three days a week. It's been a month and they are still loving it! This is the second year going to this camp and everyday they come home smiling! Annie and Sam are both taking piano lessons with Mark on Wednesday nights. Here is Annie practicing, I must admit since Sam is catching on quickly she has been more motivated to practice!
This picture of Sam is typical, leaning over the pack-n-play helping Timothy fall asleep. Both of the kids are awesome with our new bundle. Even when Timothy is sleeping, they have begun changing their bear's diapers and feeding the bears and moving them around from the bouncy seat to the swing to the crib to their arms. They are getting some good parental practicing in! Sam is enjoying camp 100% more this year. I think it is since he is older and more confident. He is taking karate now, and is one stripe away from moving from white belt to orange belt. He can't wait!
As for my little man, he is a dream! He found his thumb at 8 weeks and since then has begun sleeping 10 hours at night (usually 6 pm to 4 am). (Notice he is always on his tummy!) His vision must be improving since he notices Annie sitting next to him in the car and he watches me move around when I am not holding him. He is a smiley boy and loves a good conversation (and coos back!) His favorite lullaby is Edelweiss from the Sound of Music.
This last picture is pretty random. We have a couple chipmunks that have lived on our property for 3-4 years. These guys come right up to the patio step and torment our cats. Here is one, relaxing on the rocking chair, enjoying the hot summer evening! ;)

Happy Summer!

We traveled down to see our dear friends, Beth and Jimmy, over the fourth of July weekend. Timothy traveled pretty good in the car- he did better when I sat in the back and he could see me. He slept like a champ in the hotel and allowed all of us to sleep in until 8 am! Beth had a bbq on Saturday and she and I had attempted to make a layered jello-cake in the shape of a flag. Needless to say Mark had to come and try to rescue it before dinner!

Annie and Sam loved swimming in the hotel pool and the pool at Beth and Jimmy's all weekend. I thought they would become tired of the pool since they swim at camp three days a week, but they didn't!
Fireworks were rained out, so we just hung out and chillaxed, playing Wii Fit (hilarious with the kids!), giving each other tattoos and going out to dinner. It was a wonderful, relaxing weekend.
As for Timothy, he is growing like a weed! He is smiling and laughing most of the day and putting himself to sleep. He is sleeping 5 hours now for his first stretch of the evening and getting into a nice pattern during the day. He is growing out of his 3 month clothes (sad) but it is fun to watch him grow- being able to bat at objects now, follow noises with his head, interact with the kids. Moving from two to three kids has been one of the easiest transitions of my life!

Welcome Timothy Allan!

What can I say about this new little life?! Timothy is such a joy! I cannot believe he will be a month old this week. He is beginning to grow out of all his newborn sized clothes already- a good sign of his physical development, but sad at the same time. Annie and Sam were great babies, but Timothy wins the prize for most easy going. I think he cried for a total of 5 minutes yesterday- and that was when he was getting a diaper change!
Samuel adores Timothy and is anxious to make him laugh and get into trouble together. Sam actually requested to change a diaper this week!
Annie loves to hold and cuddle Timothy and has been caught walking around the house with him (thankfully she is very careful!)
Tim is calling for a feeding! Off we go! Thanks for all the prayers- God has heard and answered all of them! :)

New School Year

Well, here we are in the first full week of September. With Labor Day behind us it's definite that summer days are now over until next year. Annie has transitioned well into second grade. She hasn't had an ounce of homework yet ( I keep telling her I am going to give her teacher a call to give her some). Annie has joined soccer again this fall, this is her third year and she really enjoys it. She is back with the same coach she had in kindergarten and she really likes him. I am curious to see what this year will bring for Annie. My hopes is that she continues to try new things, make new friends and give her best with the challenges of a second grader!

This is Sam's first year on a soccer team. We tried t-bal last year which was a disaster. so far, Sam is much more engaged during soccer than he was t-ball. During his first game he scored two goals and was goalie for a quarter too. He was quite proud of himself! Sam is also loving kindergarten, which is such a change from last year. I am still unsure of why preschool was such a hard year for him, but mostly I am glad that year is behind him and am really enjoying seeing his confidence and skill level blossom. He is reading well and has began to improve on his writing and spelling skills. The biggest change so far is that he has been doing these things on his own, not me trying to sit him down to read or practice writing his letters.
HERE'S TO A GOOD YEAR!

Family Reunion Trip

We made our way down to Santa Claus, Indiana at the end of July for Mark's dad's family reunion. Lucky enough for us, it was very close to where my parents live and we were able to stay there and sneak in a visit. I almost peed my pants when Annie and Sam came out of a hide-n-seek spot wearing my mom's old wigs. Seriously- that is FUNNY!
On the Friday of our trip we made our way out to Morengo Caves, which is a 30 minute drive from my parents. It was awesome! It was 52 degrees in the caves and we had a 40 minute tour. Learning about stalagmites and stalactites. The highlight of the tour for me was when they turned off all the electric lights and we were really in total darkness. I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face. Amazing!
On Saturday we met other parts of the family and headed off to Holiday World Amusement Park. This park is the cleanest and the friendliest amusement park I have even been too. It was pretty hot on this day, so we spent the afternoon in the water park aspect to cool off! We couldn't stay too late thought because all of the family was meeting for dinner.
So here is 50 of the I don't know how many relatives there really are on my father in law's side of the family. It was a great weekend trip. I really enjoyed getting to know Mark's extended side of the family and Annie and Sam really had fun getting to know their second and third cousins!

Summer's Half-way Over!

Not quite sure how the middle of July came so fast! But here we are. Six weeks from now I will be writing a sappy post about how my kids are back in school- Sam starting kindergarten and Annie second grade. So here is a very quick sum of the past 6 weeks. Mark ran the Soldier Field 10 miler memorial day weekend, the kids ran the 50 yard dash (although they tell everyone it was a marathon!). We had a great time!
Mark's Grandma celebrated her 90th birthday on June 29th. Here we all are at a delicious polish restaurant in Brookfield. We had a good time. Notice Sam's wet pee mark in his shorts. I can't wait to use this picture again when he is 18! HA!
The kids are going to camp three days a week (on the days I work) and loving it!
They come home exhausted and ravenous, but happy. Everyday they say camp is awesome ("not great mom, AWESOME!") We haven't done as many trips to the zoo as I would have thought by now, only one actually. But we have visited Nana (auntie Meg) and are taking care of Annie's school garden once a week. All winter long I have looked forward to the lazy days of summer and now I am here frantically stepping on the brake trying to slow down summer. Oh well.
Sam lost his first tooth 2 weeks ago. He lost the other bottom one this morning while Mark was brushing his teeth. I cannot believe how big he is growing. I swear he grew from a toddler to a 5 1/2 year old boy overnight. He even has a little girlfriend at camp named Ava. He seems to have a thing for blondes. hmph. ;)
